Frequently asked questions.
Who are we?
We are GOODSTUDY Tutoring, founded in 2015 by Linh and Eugene. We are a team of tutors devoted to helping students manage their schoolwork so that they can succeed academically. For more information, see our About Us page.
What kind of tutoring do you offer and how can it help me?
We offer private one-on-one tutoring at our centre at Yonge and Lawrence. A typical session is one hour long, or may be an hour and a half to two hours long if you need it. At each tutoring session, whether you need help doing your homework, understanding a difficult topic or unit, or you are preparing for a test or exam, your tutor will be ready to go through your schoolwork with you. They will focus on providing individual attention and support in the areas that you are having difficulty with in order to improve your overall understanding of the material.
To see how we’ve helped other students, please see our Testimonials page.
Do you offer your own curriculum, or do you focus on my schoolwork?
No, we do not offer our own curriculum, nor do we offer our own lesson plan. We focus directly on your current schoolwork and on what you are currently learning in the classroom because that's what matters.
Most franchises offer tutoring in the form of a standardized curriculum and they provide their own material and worksheets. While it may provide some benefit, it often does not overlap with what you are learning in school.
We carry most of the current textbooks at our centre as well as a number of other resources, but you should bring to the session whatever school materials you need such as your own textbook, class notes, laptop, etc. as this is what we will be focusing on during the session.
For younger students (K - 6) that may not have their own notes or textbook, we have many other resources that we can use and we will try to match this with what you are learning in school.
Do you offer in-home tutoring?
No, all of our tutoring is done onsite at 3216 Yonge Street, the second floor. Although in-home tutoring can be effective, there may be various distractions lying around that may prevent the student from being fully engaged during the session.
We believe the session is most effective for the student if it is done in an environment that is different from their room or their home so they can be in the proper mindset for learning. We’ve done our best to create a comfortable learning environment here at GOODSTUDY, and so far all of our students love coming here. You are always welcome to come in and study on your own time as well, as some of our students do. Please see our Facilities page for more information.
Who needs tutoring?
Tutoring is not only for students who are doing poorly in school. More and more students are looking to tutoring to give them an edge in school. If you sometimes find yourself struggling to keep up in school or if you are doing well but still have some difficulties here and there, then you may benefit from tutoring.
It all comes down to having someone you can rely on when you encounter difficulties in school and having someone who will guide you and give you the individual attention and support that you need to do well.
Are your tutors qualified?
We hire our tutors based on qualifications, educational background, prior tutoring experience, and most importantly their personality and how they relate and interact with students.
Through their many years of tutoring experience, the directors of GOODSTUDY have gained a sense of what it means to be a good tutor and what approaches work best. We are responsible for making sure that each of our tutors are thoroughly prepared and will deliver the high standard that we maintain at GOODSTUDY. That way, we ensure that you are getting the best tutoring experience that we have to offer.
Some of our tutors have teaching degrees, but not all, as we believe it is not essential to have a teaching degree in order to be a good tutor. A teacher that teaches a class of students does not necessarily make a good tutor, as it requires direct one-on-one interaction. It is very much dependent on the individual, and that is what we look for in a tutor before we accept them on the GOODSTUDY team.
I have a learning disability. Can you still help me?
It really depends on the nature or severity of your learning disability. With the understanding that you may learn differently from other students, your tutor will spend time with you in order to try and figure out what approaches will work best for you.
We've helped students with learning disabilities in the past who have shown great improvement. If you have a learning disability, just let us know and we'll see what we can do for you.
What grades and courses do you tutor?
